Below we provide a list of our most commonly asked questions regarding our guide services including inquires about the San Juan River, Navajo Lake, current weather conditions and what to expect or bring when you experience and adventure with Resolution Guide Service.

Do you provide fishing gear?

All guided trips through Resolution Guide Service include full instruction and a hearty lunch. Our trips include all your flies, many of which are ties unique to Resolution. You'll need to bring your own waders, polarized sun glasses, seasonal fishing clothes, and a fly rod. We recommend an 8ft or 9ft, 5wt or 6wt rod with matching weight forward or double-taper line.

Can I bring my own rod?

Sure! If you have a favorite rod and reel, bring it for sure! (We recommend an 8ft or 9ft, 5wt or 6wt rod with matching weight forward or double-taper line.)

Do you offer group rates?

Yes we offer group & corporate rates.

What kind of wildlife can I expect to see?

You can expect to see all kinds of wildlife, such as blackbear, deer, elk, turkey, many birds and much more.

How much should I tip my guide?

A customary gratuity for your guide is 15-25%,similar to a restaurant.

How many people do you take out on one boat?

We prefer two on a boat, but no more than three.

Can we keep and cook our catch or do you only do catch & release?

Yes, you can keep fish with State regulations.

Do I need to know how to fly fish, I'm a newbie!

No worries when you go out with us! First and foremost, this is YOUR day to enjoy, and we are here to create the most positive experience possible. Our job is to make a fantastic memory for you that will last a lifetime! We love to teach, know how to listen, and love to laugh. My business is built on repeat customers and referrals. Bring your camera and let’s go have a blast!

Do you clean any fish we keep?

We clean all fish you keep.

Is there a restaurant that will cook our catch?

The Rainbow lodge will be happy to cook your catch to order.

Can I bring a cooler with extra drinks & snacks?

We provide a cooler with food & drinks, but if you have special taste or needs, a small cooler is fine to bring.

Do you allow alcohol consumption on the trip?

Alcohol is allowed in moderation.

My wife doesn't fish, will she be bored?

With New Mexico's beautiful scenery, it is hard to be bored, but there is plenty to do in the area. Just check with us in advance and we can provide you with all the information.

Do you allow children on the trip & is there an age limit?

We welcome children on our trips, but don't suggest children very young.

Do you provide lodging?

We own and operate the Rainbow Lodge. If the lodge is booked, there is plenty of other lodging to fit your needs. Just give us a call in advance and we can help.

Do you provide food on the trip?

Resolution Guide Service Provides a lunch, waters and soda drinks.

What type of fishing gear do you use & provide?

We use all top of the line fishing gear and boats.

What about the weather?

Since the weather changes every day, I like to discuss the report a day or so before your charter. I am not one of those captains that goes out no matter what. If I think the weather or wind will effect fishing or your day in a negative way, let’s reschedule! I want your day to be enjoyable! We don’t need to fight wind or inclement weather!

What about restrooms?

We have pull offs down the river and porta johns on the lake.

What will we be fishing for?

We fish Rainbow, cutbow & brown trout on the San Juan river and Carp, crappie, big & smallmouth bass on the Navajo Lake.

What if I catch a trophy fish, can I get a replica mount of my fish?

Resolution Guide Service can put you in touch with a taxidermy in the area.

Will we have cell reception on your boat?

There is cell reception in some areas, but we keep a satellite phone with us at all times.

Do you have to tip the guides?

Tipping is not mandatory, but always appreciated and recommended.

What should I wear?

Dress in layers appropriate for the season. Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.

Do I need to bring a camera?

All of our guides carry a camera and love to capture memories of a great day on the river.
